Amy Kelly met with Harry Shinton and learned about the Friends of the Children's Justice Center and how they are raising funds for the Center. They sponsor several fundraising activities throughout the year such as the Black Tie Blue Jean event that will be held in November.

Amy Kelly attended the annual 4-H Fashion Show and Exhibit Expo and saw the wide array of projects made by the talented young people in our county. Stansbury Days 2013

Amy Kelly met with Dave Vielstich of the Stansbury Park Community Association and learned about the Stansbury Days activities held this year. Ophir Day 2013

Amy Kelly met with Ophir Mayor Walt Shubert and learned about the history of Ophir and the work that is being done to preserve it. There is a historic site in town where several old homes and buildings can be viewed on Saturdays. Hours of availability may vary. The original Ophir Day began with the miners long ago, and the tradition still continues.

Fitness For Women At Curves

Melanie Chacon met with Colette Boulden, who is the owner of Curves in Tooele. Curves is for women only and the workout has been designed to meet the needs of women. The workout is fast-paced and can be completed in only 30 minutes, but it is not strenuous. Also, a satisfied client shares her weight loss success story.

Grantsville Family Saving for Autism Service Dog

Amy Kelly met with Christine Johnson and learned about the service dog they are trying to get to help their son Dillon with his autism. They are hoping to get the dog sometime next year, but are still short of the necessary funds. The dog will be able to help Dillon when he is having seizures and it will also go to school with him.

Jumpin Jack Splash Food Drive 2013

Amy Kelly met with Shawn and Jennifer O'Rarden of Jumpin' Jack Splash at the Second Annual Open Bounce and Food Drive. All donations were given to the Tooele Food Bank. After making a canned food donation, the public could play all day on all of their inflatable bounce houses. Also, there were games and contests, food and vendors.

THS Band Fundraiser for Trip to Hawaii

Amy Kelly visited the Tooele High School Band fundraiser called "Where the chips may fall" where cows were allowed to roam the high school football field and prizes were awarded based on where the cows did their business. Amy talked with Assistant Principal Betsy Swynenburg and Bill Johnson of the Band Boosters.

On May 18, the Live Fit Tooele County Coalition sponsored a Wellness Celebration at the Deseret Peak Complex. There were information and activity booths, and fun games too. Live Fit Summer Walking Challenge 2013

Melanie Chacon met with Malaena Toohey and learned about a fun way to help you get moving this summer. Just walk or run a marathon between May 19 and Aug 20 and you can enter to win some great prizes. You can walk by yourself, or with family and friends. You can walk while exploring Tooele trails and parks to make it more fun.

Chante Wouden met with Grantsville City Mayor Brent Marshall and Library Director John Ingersoll and learned about the new library. The library is a "monument to communication" according to the mayor as he tells the story of how it came to be. John tells about the many resources available at the library that extends far beyond the books on the shelves.

Tigers Tae Kwon Do in Erda is Exercise With a Kick

Melanie Chacon met with Master Moon and JiWon Moon at Tigers Tae Kwon Do in Erda, Utah. Tae Kwon Do emphasizes the use of kicks for self-defense and also includes strength and endurance training with exercises. As students increase in skill, they move up 12 steps until they receive a black belt.

Amy Kelly met with Cassandra Arnell and learned about the Tooele Today website and the great variety of fun, local activities listed on it. Cassandra originally began collecting information on community activities for her family, but soon had requests from others for it so she put it on a website.

The Awareness Factor had its grand opening and invited the community to a Wellness Fair where the public could learn about several resources for self-improvement. Amy Kelly talked with Lorena Santiago and Arlyce Price and learned about the center and some of the courses that will be offered. The Awareness Factor is located at 392 West 200 South in Tooele. Tooele Skyline Nature Park Ribbon Cutting

Amy Kelly met with Tooele City Mayor Patrick Dunlavy and Parks and Recreation Director Kathy Bell at the ribbon cutting for the new Skyline Nature Park. This park is something new for Tooele because it has electronic activity games that make physical activity fun. It also has a total body fitness station and a perimeter track for jogging and walking.

Tooele County Fair 2012

Amy Kelly met with several people at the fair and talked to them about their experiences. Amy talked to three children that won blue ribbons, Miss Tooele County 2nd Attendant, and two volunteers that work with the exhibits. Amy also talked to a singer before her performance, and scouts that were doing a fundraiser at the fair. Four videos are available.
