Festival of Lights 2013 at Stansbury High School

Amy Kelly met with Rod Lundwall at the annual Stansbury High School "Festival of Lights". This is a fundraising project in which items such as trees are decorated and the public can bid on them in a silent auction. The money is given to the Tooele County Food Bank utility assistance fund to help local families stay warm.

Amy Kelly met with Steve Jenkins of Southern BBQ Pig and Shannon Fowles of Faust Creek Farms and learned about their great partnership. Shannon and his family raise chickens, turkey, and pigs locally using healthy, organic methods. Steve gets the meat he uses from Shannon and slowly barbecues it to tender perfection.

Stansbury High Drama presents a Royal Feast

Melanie Chacon met with Glen Carpenter at the Stansbury High Drama Royal Feast fundraising activity and learned about the many activities they are involved in. A rustic dinner was served and there was a lot of fun and excitement from the king, beggars, and costumed drama students.

Amy Kelly met with Val Medley in Tooele and learned about their fun family tradition of bringing tree leaves into their house. Each fall they gather bags and bags of tree leaves and put them in their house so they can play day or night and don't have to worry about the cold or wet weather. It is free family fun!

Amy Kelly met with Tooele County's professional ghost hunters and learned about some of their documented experiences. The name of the group is UPI for Untitled Paranormal Investigators. The founder is Derek VonHatten, who had his first experience with a ghost at Bauer, right here in Tooele County.

Amy Kelly met with the manager, Brandon Crosby, and Chef Joe at Bonneville Brewery in Tooele. All their entrees are made from scratch and are a cut above the ordinary that you would find at a chain restaurant. Upstairs they also have a bar that serves the beer that they brew right at the restaurant.

There is a historic site in town where several old homes and buildings can be viewed on Saturdays. Hours of availability may vary. The original Ophir Day began with the miners long ago, and the tradition still continues.

Grantsville Family Saving for Autism Service Dog

Amy Kelly met with Christine Johnson and learned about the service dog they are trying to get to help their son Dillon with his autism. They are hoping to get the dog sometime next year, but are still short of the necessary funds. The dog will be able to help Dillon when he is having seizures and it will also go to school with him.

Amy Kelly met with Shawn and Jennifer O'Rarden of Jumpin' Jack Splash at the Second Annual Open Bounce and Food Drive. All donations were given to the Tooele Food Bank. After making a canned food donation, the public could play all day on all of their inflatable bounce houses. Also, there were games and contests, food and vendors.

THS Band Fundraiser for Trip to Hawaii

Amy Kelly visited the Tooele High School Band fundraiser called "Where the chips may fall" where cows were allowed to roam the high school football field and prizes were awarded based on where the cows did their business. Live Fit Summer Walking Challenge 2013

Melanie Chacon met with Malaena Toohey and learned about a fun way to help you get moving this summer. The library is a "monument to communication" according to the mayor as he tells the story of how it came to be. John tells about the many resources available at the library that extends far beyond the books on the shelves.

Tigers Tae Kwon Do in Erda is Exercise With a Kick

Melanie Chacon met with Master Moon and JiWon Moon at Tigers Tae Kwon Do in Erda, Utah. Tae Kwon Do emphasizes the use of kicks for self-defense and also includes strength and endurance training with exercises. As students increase in skill, they move up 12 steps until they receive a black belt.
